When I began writing Summer of Firefly Memories, I had no idea where this journey would take me. Now, these characters have lives of their own and stories to be told. What started out as “what if these four grown sisters returned to a place they went in their youth – leaving work, husbands, and children behind to just be sisters again?” has become something exciting – a little different.
Readers find themselves connecting to the characters – as a sister, as a daughter, as a mother, as someone facing life’s new challenges and being brave enough to change.
I’ve received so many wonderful comments from readers:
“Thanks for such positive soul-feeding reading.”
“Thank you for such inspiring real characters!”
(Side note here: I honestly have the best readers – they connect with the characters and the stories and they take time out of their busy lives to actually tell me so! Can you believe it? Love my readers!)
As the stories developed there was an underlying theme that kept occurring for these characters. Many of them began to follow their creative passions and pursue their dreams. I think so many of us can relate to that yearning.
It’s interesting that what works for romance novels – girl meets boy, falls in love, and lives happily ever after (with lots of fun ups and downs, twists and turns, of course) – works for these characters and their dreams. It’s exciting to read about when a character discovers their passion/dream, falls in love with it, changes their life (little by little or one big leap) to make it happen, and lives happily ever after!
There really isn’t the perfect genre for this type of novels. It a Coming-of-Age genre for the over-thirty! Women’s Fiction for the Creative Soul, perhaps?
Give them a read and let me know!
